Sharjah Ruler Chairs Inaugural Meeting Of The Sharjah Council For Higher Education And Scientific Research
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, chaired the inaugural meeting of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research (SCHESR). The meeting took place at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre. Key figures such as H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, were present.
H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan highlighted the pivotal role universities play in societal advancement. He underscored the SCHESR's mission to support educational institutions in Sharjah, a journey that began in 1997 with the founding of the University of Sharjah and the American University of Sharjah. The council is committed to delivering top-notch education through modern curricula.
The Ruler of Sharjah stressed that universities must be established correctly from the outset. He reflected on how educational institutions were initially set up in Sharjah, emphasising the need for skilled professionals to guide this process effectively. This ensures these institutions have a strong foundation.
Each university in Sharjah adheres to a high-quality curriculum developed with leading global universities. They are governed by boards of trustees composed of experienced individuals who oversee operations and make crucial decisions for success.
H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan emphasised selecting professors capable of fulfilling their teaching and research duties comprehensively. Professors should effectively communicate their expertise to students, ensuring complete understanding. University administrations must continuously monitor educational processes.
The management of educational institutions in Sharjah is meticulously planned and monitored, prioritising student interests alongside societal needs in these fields.
Importance of Knowledge
Education holds immense importance for H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan, who stated, "I prioritise the educational process above all else, and then education itself." He believes knowledge transcends borders, race, appearance, or language and values those who possess or seek it.
The SCHESR plays a crucial role in supporting universities without interfering in their operations but instead providing resources and expertise from knowledgeable scholars.
Council's Role and Legal Framework
During the meeting, Dr. Mansour Mohammed Bin Nassar read legal legislation related to SCHESR: Emiri Decree No. (14) of 2025 regarding its establishment and organisation; Emiri Decree No. (15) concerning its formation; Administrative Resolution No. (2) about forming its Permanent Executive Committee.
The Crown Prince expressed gratitude towards H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan for his trust in them: "We thank you, Your Highness... With God’s grace and your guidance, we are determined to meet and exceed your expectations."
