Sharjah Ruler Allocates AED 4.5 Million To Enrich Public Libraries With New Titles

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has dedicated AED 4.5 million to enrich Sharjah's public and government libraries. This funding will acquire the latest works from Arab and international publishers showcased at the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2024). The fair features over 2,500 publishers and exhibitors, presenting a wide range of literary and scholarly works.

This annual grant highlights the Ruler of Sharjah's ongoing dedication to enhancing the book industry and expanding access to knowledge for readers, students, and researchers in Sharjah and across the UAE. By reinforcing libraries' crucial role, this initiative supports a knowledge-based society, contributing significantly to Sharjah’s cultural growth.

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), stated that the Ruler's grant strengthens efforts to elevate the publishing sector. "The Ruler of Sharjah’s grant bolsters our ongoing efforts to elevate the publishing sector, bringing contemporary thought and knowledge into Sharjah’s public spaces," she said.

Sheikha Bodour further explained that updating library collections with current scientific and intellectual works ensures that the community stays at the forefront of knowledge and innovation. She emphasised that libraries have a transformative power that guides society's direction both now and in the future.
