Sharjah Ruler Allocates AED 2.5 Million To Enhance Libraries With New Publications
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has allocated AED2.5 million to enhance public and governmental libraries in the emirate. This funding will be used to acquire the latest publications from both Arabic and international publishers participating in the 16th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival.
The initiative reflects Dr Sultan bin Mohammed's dedication to making libraries vibrant centres for knowledge creation and skill development. It emphasises the significance of supporting the publishing sector, empowering publishers, and broadening educational opportunities for future generations by providing a wide array of modern learning resources.
This grant plays a crucial role in fostering a reading culture in Sharjah by encouraging research and knowledge acquisition. It also highlights the emirate's commitment to transforming libraries into platforms for cultural exchange, reinforcing that investing in books is an investment in people and their future.
Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), remarked on this initiative: "His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi, through his initiative to allocate AED2.5 million to support the emirate’s libraries, has invested in human development and the advancement of knowledge."
Sheikha Bodour further stated that this initiative extends beyond supporting Sharjah’s libraries. It acts as a catalyst for the regional and global publishing sector while contributing to strengthening this vital industry and ensuring its sustainability.
The grant is also seen as a gift to readers, offering new opportunities for younger generations to explore, question, and innovate. Supporting publishers aligns with this vision as they are responsible for introducing fresh content that reaches society.
