Collaborating with the Ministry of Community Empowerment, the Sharjah Social Services Department, and the Senior Citizens Services Centre at Al Asala Club, the initiative aimed to connect different generations through heritage.

Participants from various age groups gathered at the Institute’s headquarters to engage in cultural exchanges. The event attracted heritage experts, cultural enthusiasts, and citizens eager to explore shared experiences. This gathering highlighted how heritage can unite people across generations.

The first day featured activities inspired by the marine environment. Attendees experienced Al-Nahma, an Emirati sea chant, which underscored the sea's historical significance in Emirati life. Through storytelling and performances, participants from all ages engaged in meaningful dialogue.

On the second day, women from Al Asala Club participated in educational sessions. These activities celebrated cultural identity and allowed elder women to share their wisdom with younger generations. The setting was empowering and respectful, fostering a sense of community.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of SIH, remarked on the initiative’s success: "With this initiative, we aim to serve as a living bridge between generations. Heritage is not just about preservation; it's about connection." His comments reflected the strong community engagement witnessed during the event.

Aisha Ghabish, Director of Events and Activities at SIH, highlighted inclusivity: "Dedicating the second day to the women of Al Asala Club reflects our belief in inclusivity and the critical role seniors play in preserving our cultural fabric." She emphasised how these gatherings enable seniors to pass on their stories effectively.

Impact on Social Ties and Cultural Continuity

This intergenerational gathering demonstrated how such initiatives can strengthen social bonds while ensuring cultural heritage continuity. It showcased Sharjah’s dedication to inclusive heritage work that encourages participation from diverse backgrounds.

The event embodied Sharjah’s vision of using heritage as a bridge between past and present. By fostering intergenerational encounters, it aimed to deepen identity awareness among future generations. Heritage was not only remembered but also revitalised for future relevance.
