Winners Of The Sharjah Fine Arts Award Highlight Contributions To Artistic Orientalism

The winners of the fifteenth edition of the Sharjah Award for Fine Arts Critical Research have been announced. This session, themed "The Arab World in Artistic Orientalism: Aesthetic and Civilizational Dimensions," was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The event was organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs within Sharjah's Department of Culture.

During a meeting at the Department of Culture in Sharjah, the award jury reviewed their report in detail. Abdullah Al Sheikh from Morocco won first place with his research titled "The Arab World in Orientalist Art: Civilizational and Aesthetic Dimensions." The award highlights critical aspects of Arab fine arts, fostering a unique culture in this field.

Sharjah Fine Arts Award Winners Announced

Professor Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qasir, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department and Secretary General of the Award, highlighted the importance of His Highness’s patronage. He stated that it supports a specialised critical culture in Arab fine arts. This initiative is unique in its focus on critical aspects within this artistic domain.

Al-Qasir noted that over 50 critics have been recognised by the Arab Critical Library following extensive participation. Contributions came from various countries such as the UAE, Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and others. This wide participation underscores the award's artistic significance across the Arab world.

The winners will be honoured next December. The award continues to affirm its role in highlighting critical perspectives on Arab fine arts through diverse contributions from across the region. This recognition reflects its creative impact within artistic circles.

Al-Qasir emphasised that this participation showcases the distinctive nature of the award. It highlights its artistic and creative significance within the Arab world. The award has established a specialised critical culture based on His Highness’s vision.
