Sharjah Energy Council Holds Inaugural Meeting To Discuss Sustainable Energy Strategies

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, chaired the first meeting of the Energy Council. The session was held at the Ruler’s Office. H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of Sharjah National Oil Corporation, was also present.

Sheikh Sultan warmly welcomed the Council members, congratulating them on their appointment by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. He expressed his hopes for their success in achieving their future vision and goals while crafting solutions for energy sector sustainability.

The Council's discussions centred on essential steps to meet its objectives and establish its roles. They prioritised developing sustainable strategies and future plans for the energy and water sectors, focusing on alternative and renewable energy sources while anticipating future developments in the sector.

Collaboration between governmental and private sectors in energy was highlighted as crucial by the Council. This collaboration aims to enhance economic growth in Sharjah by diversifying energy sources and ensuring efficient and sustainable delivery.

The Council underscored the importance of learning from international best practices to effectively utilise various experiences. This approach is intended to strengthen the emirate's position in the global energy landscape.

The meeting saw attendance from notable figures including Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Chairman of the Oil Department; Saeed Al Suwaidi, Chairman of Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority; Waleed Ibrahim Al Sayegh, Director-General of Central Finance Department; and Hatem Diab Al Mousa, Secretary-General of the Energy Council.
