Sharjah To Become Arena For Elite Drone Champions Race This April

The Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) is set to host the inaugural Drone Champions Race at Al Majaz Amphitheater from 20th to 21st April, in collaboration with MultiGP, the world's largest drone racing league. This event marks a significant milestone as it introduces the first race of its kind in Sharjah, featuring 16 of the world's elite drone racers, including the 2018 world champion, Paul Nurkala.

The competition promises two days of intense action with four qualifiers leading up to the final race on the second day. The top four competitors from the qualifiers will vie for supremacy in the final showdown. Tariq Saeed Allay, SGMB Director General, highlighted that this event is part of a broader effort to bolster Sharjah's global appeal as a premier destination for tourism and diverse sporting events.

Allay further noted that drone racing is a sport that perfectly melds technology with strategic thinking and is underpinned by significant research and development. It represents a forward-looking technology with wide-ranging positive applications and developmental potential. The race not only offers an opportunity to witness the prowess of world-class racers but also serves as a platform to explore the latest innovations in drone technology.

The event is expected to draw specialized companies and exhibitions, presenting their newest products and services. This will provide attendees with insights into the latest trends in drone equipment. Additionally, a variety of side activities and shows are planned to entertain visitors and drone racing aficionados alike.

For those interested in participating in the event's accompanying activities, registration is open for individuals with registered and authorized private aircraft, adhering to the UAE's terms and conditions. A designated area will be allocated for enthusiasts to engage in their hobby.

Drone races typically fall into two categories: those that test speed and accuracy on a set course, and those that showcase freeform flying skills. This upcoming race in Sharjah promises to be a thrilling exhibition of both types, offering something for every drone racing enthusiast.
