Over 95,000 Wells Dug By Sharjah Charity International To Combat Global Water Scarcity

In a significant humanitarian effort to combat water scarcity, Sharjah Charity International (SCI) has successfully completed 95,393 well-digging projects from 2007 until the end of 2023. These initiatives, costing a total of AED274.6 million, are designed to provide much-needed water resources to remote areas across various countries plagued by drought and lack of access to clean water. The projects were carried out in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside the state's embassies and consulates, and facilitated through SCI's international offices.

Marking the global observance of Water Day on 22nd March, SCI highlighted its pivotal role in aiding underprivileged communities worldwide. This initiative aligns with its broader humanitarian mission and charitable objectives. Sheikh Saeed bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the SCI Board of Directors, shared insights into the meticulous planning behind these life-sustaining projects. Through comprehensive studies and field visits, SCI pinpointed critical areas in dire need of water infrastructure development to support impoverished and deserving populations.

SCI's Global Water Relief Efforts

These well-digging endeavors have not only provided immediate relief to those in need but have also facilitated the construction of water networks linking neighbouring villages and the establishment of desalination plants. Such infrastructural developments have significantly reduced the hardships faced by residents, who previously endured long and arduous journeys under harsh conditions to fetch drinking water. The wells serve a dual purpose, supporting human life as well as livestock and agriculture, thereby sustaining entire communities in affected regions across Africa and Asia. This achievement was made possible through the generous contributions of donors and benefactors committed to the well-digging project.

The impact of these projects extends beyond immediate water provision; they represent a lifeline for thousands of people, enabling them to lead healthier lives free from the daily struggle for survival against water scarcity. SCI's efforts underscore the importance of collaborative humanitarian work in addressing global challenges, demonstrating how targeted assistance can bring about substantial improvements in the quality of life for many.
