Sharjah Chamber Champions Innovative Projects To Enhance Emirati Heritage And Economic Growth
The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) is dedicated to backing innovative national projects that aim to revive Emirati heritage. These initiatives not only celebrate the UAE’s cultural legacy but also enhance its reputation as a sustainable eco-tourism hub. This commitment was highlighted during a visit by Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, SCCI Chairman, and other board members to the Suwaidi Pearl Farm in Ras Al Khaimah.
Established in 2005 by Abdullah Rashid Al Suwaidi, the Suwaidi Pearls is the first pearl farm in the Arabian Gulf. It aims to revive Arabian pearl diving's legacy and highlight its historical and economic significance. The farm employs scientific and environmentally friendly techniques for pearl cultivation, using solar energy to power its facilities while preserving biodiversity.

Abdallah Sultan Al Owais praised the establishment of the Suwaidi Pearl Farm for preserving a heritage craft rooted in UAE history. He emphasised supporting initiatives with cultural, economic, and tourism significance. The visit aligns with SCCI’s strategy to collaborate with sustainable ventures that blend tradition with modern development.
The farm uses natural oyster farming methods to ensure sustainability, maintaining marine ecosystems. This approach aligns with SCCI's focus on promoting projects that integrate heritage with innovation. The Chamber continues to support Sharjah’s jewellery exhibitions, reinforcing this direction.
Abdullah Rashid Al Suwaidi noted that SCCI’s visit provides valuable support for the Suwaidi Pearl Farm, a unique model where oysters are naturally cultivated. He expressed pride in participating in the Jewels of Emirates Show and launching the "Rare Natural Pearls" Exhibition, both supported by Expo Centre Sharjah and SCCI.
The farm also took part in a seminar exploring the UAE’s historical role in pearl production. It documented the rich potential of UAE coasts in supplying premium-quality pearls globally while highlighting traditional pearl-diving as an integral part of UAE heritage.
SCCI's ongoing support for such projects underscores its commitment to diversifying Sharjah’s economic base through cultural initiatives. By spotlighting these ventures, SCCI aims to reinforce the UAE's position as a leading destination for eco-tourism built on cultural foundations.
