Sharjah Award For Voluntary Work Introduces Environment Challenge To Foster Community Engagement
The Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work has introduced its June Challenge, themed "Be an Environment Friend," as part of the 12x12 Challenge series. This initiative aims to boost environmental awareness and encourage community involvement in environmental protection, aligning with sustainable development goals.
Dr. Jasim Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work, highlighted that the Challenge reflects the Award's mission to promote social and environmental responsibility among individuals and organisations. He stated, "Every tree planted and every piece of recycled waste is a step toward a more sustainable future." The challenge serves as both an invitation to participate and a message promoting awareness about shared responsibility.

The Challenge seeks to emphasise the crucial role individuals and groups play in protecting the planet through simple actions like planting trees, cleaning public areas, and recycling waste. These efforts aim to leave a positive impact for future generations. Additionally, it encourages innovative ideas and voluntary initiatives that help preserve the environment as cultural heritage and maintain natural balance.
This initiative is part of a monthly series designed to inspire volunteerism across various sectors. It promotes sustainable development while fostering a culture of volunteering among all community segments. This aligns with Sharjah’s vision as a leading city in voluntary work.
Al Hammadi called on the community to contribute creative environmental volunteer ideas that support natural resource preservation. He stressed that safeguarding the environment is a collective duty requiring combined efforts for positive and sustainable change. The challenge not only calls for participation but also carries values of giving and shared responsibility.
The June Challenge supports ongoing efforts to raise environmental awareness and encourage community participation in protecting and sustaining the environment. By doing so, it contributes significantly to achieving sustainable development goals.
