Sharjah Airport Achieves Over 4.5 Million Passengers In First Quarter Of 2025

Sharjah Airport has marked significant growth in early 2025, welcoming over 4.5 million passengers in the first quarter. This represents an 8% rise from the same period last year, reinforcing its status as a major air travel hub in the region and a preferred choice for global travellers.

The airport's operations have been diverse and efficient, with more than 27,000 aircraft movements recorded. Additionally, it handled over 52,000 tonnes of cargo and processed an extra 3,000 tonnes through sea-air cargo operations. These figures highlight the airport's capability to meet increasing demands for air transport and logistics services.

In the private aviation sector, Sharjah Airport saw remarkable growth during Q1 2025. Private aircraft movements increased by 26.4% compared to the previous year. Passenger traffic through private aviation also rose by 20%, largely due to Gama Aviation's comprehensive ground handling services for private jets.

Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), stated that these achievements reflect SAA’s ambitious strategy and efforts to position Sharjah Airport among the top five regional airports. The focus is on enhancing operational efficiency, speeding up procedures, and expanding flight networks.

Al Midfa highlighted that the continuous growth in passenger numbers, aircraft movements, and cargo volumes underscores the trust placed in Sharjah Airport by airlines and passengers alike. He noted that it serves as a model for safe and comfortable air travel.

He further emphasised SAA's commitment to delivering integrated services meeting high-quality standards. This contributes to improved operational performance and offers a seamless travel experience.

Future Expansion Plans

The ongoing expansion projects are expected to boost the airport’s capacity to over 25 million passengers annually by 2027. This aligns with Sharjah’s ambitions and strengthens its role as a strategic hub within regional and global aviation networks.

SAA continues to pursue its development vision aimed at increasing passenger numbers by investing in advanced technologies and smart systems. These initiatives ensure smoother travel experiences that align with global best practices in aviation.
