Sharjah Airport Achieves Over 4.4 Million Passengers And Significant Cargo Growth In Q3 2024

Sharjah Airport has released its performance results for the third quarter of 2024, showing steady growth in aviation, travel, and cargo sectors. Passenger traffic exceeded 4.392 million, marking a 10% rise compared to the same period last year. Flight movements also saw a 6.7% increase, with 27,758 flights operated by 35 airlines.

Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), highlighted the airport's role in boosting Sharjah’s economy, especially in tourism, trade, and business. "This positive growth in travel, aviation, and cargo strengthens the airport’s competitive edge," he stated. The airport aims to be among the top five regional airports.

Cargo operations at Sharjah Airport continued to expand significantly. The airport handled 46,284 tonnes of cargo, reflecting a year-on-year increase of over 32%. Sea-air cargo operations also grew by 7.8%, managing 3,236 tonnes during this period.

The airport's development plans are ambitious, aiming to enhance passenger and airline confidence through innovative technologies and sustainable practices. These plans include increasing capacity to accommodate up to 25 million passengers annually by the end of 2027.

The ongoing expansion project at Sharjah Airport is set to boost its capacity significantly. By upgrading cargo facilities, the airport aims to meet rising demand efficiently. This will enable it to handle larger volumes of operations and cargo effectively.

Al Midfa noted that Sharjah Airport's operational improvements align with the emirate's economic growth strategy. This alignment positions Sharjah as a prime location for tourism, investment, residence, and business activities.
