Shanghai Port Completes Full-Chain Green Methanol Bunkering For COSCO SHIPPING YANGPU Vessel

Shanghai Port has achieved a significant milestone by completing the ship-to-ship bunkering of green methanol fuel for an international vessel. This accomplishment signifies the full integration of a locally developed green methanol supply chain at the port. By providing 'green power' to long-haul ocean-going ships, Shanghai is contributing to a more sustainable future for the maritime industry.

Over the past weekend, Shanghai Port successfully completed the bunkering of 1,000 tonnes of green methanol for the COSCO SHIPPING YANGPU. This vessel is China's first domestically built methanol dual-fuel containership. The successful operation marks a major step forward for Shanghai Port in its efforts to promote sustainable shipping practices.

Shanghai Port Completes Green Methanol Bunkering

The completion of this bunkering operation highlights the full integration of production, transportation, and bunkering processes for domestically produced green methanol. This achievement establishes a closed-loop industrial chain, ensuring efficient and sustainable operations at Shanghai Port.

Since March this year, when Shanghai Port completed its first batch bunkering of domestically produced green methanol, it has established regularized services. Efficient coordination among ports, terminals, storage facilities, and transportation operations has led to reduced overall costs in production, logistics, and transportation.

The storage tank facility at Yangshan Port provides ample capacity to support methanol fuel bunkering. Border inspection and other port authorities have collaborated with energy enterprises to streamline procedures and enhance operational efficiency continuously.

In the latest Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index, Shanghai ranked third globally as an international shipping center for the sixth consecutive year. By addressing weaknesses and leveraging strengths, Shanghai Port is accelerating efforts to become a global "green fuel station" for shipping.

According to an SMG report, staff at Shengang International Petroleum Storage and Transportation on Yangshan Island were checking methanol inventory. This ongoing monitoring ensures that sufficient supplies are available to meet demand as more vessels transition to using green methanol fuel.

The successful completion of ship-to-ship methanol bunkering by COSCO SHIPPING YANGPU marks a significant milestone for Shanghai Port. This achievement underscores the port's commitment to promoting sustainable practices within the maritime industry.
