SEWA Unveils Largest 220 KV Substation In Sharjah To Boost Energy Infrastructure
In a significant advancement for Sharjah's energy sector, the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) recently inaugurated its largest 220 kV substation, situated in the airport area of Umm Fannin. This development is a key component of SEWA's strategy to enhance the energy infrastructure within Sharjah, reflecting a commitment to ensuring the city's power needs are met efficiently and reliably.
At a cost exceeding AED500 million, the project underscores SEWA's dedication to bolster the energy framework of Sharjah city. This endeavor was realized through a collaborative effort with Siemens Energy and the General Projects Company for Mechanical and Electrical Contracting, highlighting the importance of partnership in achieving infrastructural milestones.

Abdullah Al-Koos, Deputy Director of Energy Transmission at SEWA, highlighted the significance of this new substation, describing it as a landmark achievement for the authority. It symbolizes SEWA's ongoing commitment to building a dependable and modern energy infrastructure, crucial for supporting Sharjah's economic and urban development. Al-Koos's comments underline the strategic importance of this project in meeting the city's future energy requirements.
The substation is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, featuring four 400 MVA transformers (220/132 kV) and four 75 MVA transformers (132/33 kV). This setup boasts a total capacity of over 1,200 MW, geared towards servicing key sectors in Sharjah. By significantly expanding the city's energy capacity, this substation aims to address the growing demand for electricity and enhance the electrical grid's reliability and adaptability.
Hamad Al-Tunaiji, Director of Energy Transmission, expressed SEWA's unwavering commitment to the continuous enhancement of power transmission and distribution networks throughout Sharjah. This initiative aligns with global benchmarks for quality, efficiency, and reliability, ensuring the provision of sustainable energy solutions.
