SCC Approves Key Recommendations To Support Sharjah Airport Authority's Growth And Development

The Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) recently concluded its seventeenth and final session for the second ordinary term of its eleventh legislative chapter. During this session, chaired by Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, the Council approved recommendations aimed at supporting the Sharjah International Airport Authority. These recommendations were developed by the Committee for Drafting Proposals after discussions in the Council's 14th session on 22nd May 2025.

Council members highlighted the importance of developing the Airport Authority as a crucial gateway for Sharjah, driving economic and tourism growth. They called for improvements in infrastructure, service expansion, and operational efficiencies to meet increasing global travel demands. Jassim Al Hanaee Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Proposal Drafting Committee, emphasised that these recommendations are comprehensive and future-focused.

SCC Supports Sharjah Airport Authority Initiatives

The Council stressed continuous development efforts aligned with growth plans. It also recommended granting airport staff similar employment benefits as those offered to other entities within the airport environment. This approach aims to enhance job satisfaction and retention among employees working at the airport.

Recommendations included support for Emiratisation policies, encouraging Emirati graduates to work with companies affiliated with the Authority. The Council suggested specialised training programs to open new career paths in aviation for local youth. This initiative aims to increase local participation in the aviation sector and provide more opportunities for Emiratis.

In terms of future planning, the Council emphasised reviewing air traffic growth rates and airline rights up to 2050. It suggested evaluating whether to continue expanding the current airport or consider establishing a new international airport to meet long-term demands. This strategic approach ensures that infrastructure keeps pace with projected increases in air travel.

Efficient Management of Resources

The Council recommended issuing local legislation to manage idle equipment and vehicles within airport facilities. This would ensure efficient space usage and minimise operational disruptions caused by financially struggling companies. Such measures aim to optimise resource management and maintain smooth airport operations.

Vice President Halima Al Owais reviewed key achievements of the Council during this term. In his closing remarks, Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi praised the Council’s role as a model of consultative governance under His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's guidance. He stressed national loyalty, collective responsibility, and ongoing progress in future terms.

The session concluded with Secretary General Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan reading Amiri Decree No. (20) of 2025 issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, marking the end of this legislative term effective after 19th June 2025 completion date.
