SBA Promotes Arabic Literature And Cultural Exchange At Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2025

The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) recently concluded its participation at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2025, highlighting Sharjah's role as a global hub for publishing and cultural exchange. The event saw collaboration with key cultural entities and publishing experts to promote Arabic literature internationally. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the visibility of Arabic content in global markets.

At the heart of SBA's efforts is a comprehensive programme aimed at content development, translation, and international publishing partnerships. These initiatives underscore Sharjah's commitment to expanding the reach and influence of Arabic storytelling worldwide. The emirate's growing presence on the global stage is attributed to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.

Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, emphasised Sharjah's pivotal role in shaping the future of publishing. He stated: "Sharjah continues to strengthen its role in shaping the future of publishing and knowledge production. The emirate’s growing global presence is the result of the vision and leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who has established a far-reaching cultural project that supports authors, publishers and readers."

Al Ameri further noted that events like the Bologna Children’s Book Fair are crucial for building partnerships with international stakeholders. He added: "The Bologna Children’s Book Fair is more than a venue for displaying new titles. It serves as a strategic platform for supporting publishers, building partnerships with international stakeholders, and showcasing Sharjah’s innovative initiatives that are helping to grow the publishing sector and broaden the global reach of Arabic literature."

The Sharjah pavilion featured diverse programmes including workshops led by Italian artists Eva Montanari and Irene Penazzi. Montanari's session involved creating collaborative artwork using charcoal and fingerprint techniques, while Penazzi explored visual storytelling through natural elements like leaves and dried fruits. These workshops highlighted creative engagement between nature and art.

In addition to these artistic sessions, attendees were introduced to the Sharjah Children's Book Illustrations Exhibition, now in its 13th edition. Artists were invited to contribute to its upcoming 2026 edition, fostering continued collaboration between illustrators from different cultures.
