Transforming Coastal Tourism: Saudi Red Sea Authority and Municipalities Join Forces

In a significant step towards bolstering coastal tourism, the Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) and the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing have joined forces through a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This collaboration is set to enhance the construction, operation, and development of marinas, as well as the establishment of marine vessel maintenance centers. Additionally, the partnership aims to develop beaches and promote coastal tourism destinations, thereby supporting the ambitious goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030.

The MoU was formalized by SRSA CEO Mohammed Al-Nasser and Deputy Minister for Licensing and Project Coordination Mohammed Al-Mulhim. This agreement is a testament to the commitment of both entities to advancing the kingdom's coastal tourism sector.

Saudi MoU Enhances Marina Development and Tourism

Enhancing Marina Operations and Coastal Tourism

One of the key features of this MoU is the agreement to work together on processing applications for the establishment, development, and operation of marinas. This collaboration will utilize the Balady platform, ensuring that all marinas, whether located on land or at sea, adhere to the Saudi Building Code and the approved Marina Planning and Design Code. The partnership extends to cover licensing procedures for commercial and operational activities, including the construction requirements for marine fuel stations.

Furthermore, the agreement delves into the regulatory framework for the operation of marine vessel repair and maintenance centers. It also encompasses the development and operation of beaches, including the issuance of necessary construction and commercial permits within the specified geographical areas.

Promoting Technology and Coastal Monitoring

Beyond just infrastructure development, the MoU places a strong emphasis on technology, digital integration, and coastal monitoring. Both parties have committed to promoting coastal tourism destinations, identifying investment opportunities, and mapping both tangible and intangible assets along the Red Sea coastline. This collaborative effort extends to developing policies and initiatives aimed at supporting Saudi Arabia's workforce in the municipal, housing, and coastal tourism sectors.

One of the standout aspects of this agreement is the push for smart marina initiatives. These initiatives are designed to contribute to the development of livable coastal cities and enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

This partnership between the SRSA and the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing aligns with SRSA's mandates. These include setting regulations, standards, and operational guidelines for marinas, overseeing their development and management, and promoting coastal tourism activities. By coordinating with relevant entities, the SRSA ensures environmental protection in marine tourism and navigational areas, aiming to attract target audiences and expand the sector.

The agreement represents a significant milestone in SRSA's ongoing efforts to forge strategic partnerships, exchange expertise, and embrace best practices. By doing so, the SRSA seeks to fulfill its mandate of strengthening coastal tourism, aligning with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 for a dynamic and sustainable tourism sector.
