Eastern Expansion: Saudi Global Ports Inks Four New Concession Agreements

Saudi Global Ports Group (SGP), a leading terminal operator in Saudi Arabia, has been awarded four 20-year concession agreements to operate multipurpose terminals on the Eastern Coast of Saudi Arabia. These terminals are located at King Abdulaziz Port Dammam, Jubail Commercial Port, King Fahad Industrial Port Jubail, and Ras Al-Khair Port.

The agreements signal a significant expansion of SGP's operations in the country, building on its existing role as the operator of container terminals at King Abdulaziz Port Dammam and its involvement in the Riyadh Dry Port Ecosystem.

SGP's expansion is backed by a substantial investment plan that exceeds SAR 700 million (approximately $87 million). This investment will be channeled towards infrastructure and equipment upgrades at the four terminals, aiming to enhance their efficiency and resilience.

This move is aligned with SGP's strategy to integrate these terminals with its existing operations in Dammam and Riyadh, thereby creating a more cohesive and robust logistics network.

SGP, in partnership with PSA International, is committed to the professional development of its workforce in Saudi Arabia. A series of tailored training programmes will be introduced, focusing on safety, operations, and sustainability. These programmes aim to leverage PSA International's global expertise in managing multipurpose terminals, thereby elevating the operational standards and practices at the newly awarded terminals.

Eng. Abdullah Al Zamil, Chairman of the Board at SGP, expressed pride in the company's role as a national champion for ports and logistics in Saudi Arabia. He emphasized SGP's commitment to delivering the same level of reliability and innovation at the new multipurpose terminals as has been demonstrated at KAPD and within the Riyadh Dry Port Ecosystem.

Bakr AlMuhanna, Vice Chairman of the SGP Board, underscored the importance of the agreement with Mawani in driving economic diversification as part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. He pointed out SGP's focus on integrating and modernising key terminals to enhance supply chain efficiency and support the Kingdom's role as a global logistics hub. The emphasis was also on fostering innovation, sustainability, and talent development to build a resilient and future-ready economy.

Vincent Ng, Regional CEO Europe & Mediterranean and Middle East South Asia for PSA International, shared his enthusiasm for continuing the partnership with Saudi Arabia, highlighting PSA's commitment to supporting SGP's expansion with its global expertise. This collaboration aims to introduce new value to the Kingdom's ports and logistics sector, marking a significant step in Saudi Arabia's growth journey.
