Saudi Arabia Sets To Increase Oil Production To 12.3 Million Bpd By 2028

In a strategic move that underscores Saudi Arabia's significant role in the global energy landscape, the Kingdom's Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, has unveiled plans to boost its oil production capacity to 12.3 million barrels per day 2028. This ambitious expansion is designed to align with Saudi Arabia's strategic objectives within the ever-evolving global energy markets.

The announcement, reported by Saudi Gazette, was made during a special panel discussion at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in Russia, focused on "The Future of the Oil and Gas Market: Global Demand Outlook and Producers' Plans". The forum witnessed participation from numerous OPEC and non-OPEC ministers, highlighting its importance in the global energy discourse.

As chairman of the OPEC+ ministerial meetings, Prince Abdulaziz played a pivotal role in the decisions made during the 37th OPEC and non-OPEC ministerial meeting on June 2 in Riyadh. He emphasized the flexibility of the OPEC+ agreement, which allows for adjustments in production to adapt to market conditions, including the possibility of temporary suspensions or reversals.

Prince Abdulaziz addressed criticisms from analysts regarding the OPEC+ decisions, particularly taking issue with recent reports from major financial institutions. He argued that these reports misrepresent the strength and strategic foresight of OPEC+ strategies, firmly stating that OPEC+ is committed to market stability rather than focusing merely on market share.

The minister also highlighted the effectiveness of OPEC+ actions, especially during critical moments such as the April 2020 meeting amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent meeting in June. He outlined Saudi Arabia's staged plan to incrementally increase oil production from 2025, achieving significant increases in 2026 and 2027 to reach the target capacity by 2028. Additionally, Prince Abdulaziz noted the Kingdom's dedication to renewable energy, aiming to conserve one million barrels of oil currently utilized for electricity generation by expanding alternative energy sources.
