Saudi Arabia Ranks 15th In Global AI Research Publications For 2025
Saudi Arabia has made significant strides in the arena of artificial intelligence (AI), securing the 15th position worldwide in terms of AI research publications for 2025. This achievement is highlighted in the Global AI Competitiveness Index, which assesses nations based on both the quantity and quality of AI research they generate. The index considers various factors, including the volume of AI publications and their significance in scholarly journals, marking a notable advancement for Saudi Arabia in the field of AI.
The Kingdom's progress in AI research is further illuminated by the study's findings, which analyzed over two million AI-related scientific research papers and invention patents across the globe. This research is a joint venture by the International Finance Forum (IFF) and Deep Knowledge Group (DKG), with the former being an NGO established by G20 countries along with major international bodies like the United Nations, and the latter a prominent think tank focusing on AI innovation.

Saudi Arabia's noteworthy contribution of 29,639 AI publications not only showcases its burgeoning role as an AI research hub but also positions it ahead of established players such as the Netherlands and Sweden. This is especially significant when considering the Kingdom's AI publications per capita, with over 823 publications per million people.
General Partner at Deep Knowledge Group, Dmitry Kaminskiy, remarked on the achievement, "Saudi Arabia's ranking aligns with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 objectives, reinforcing the country's commitment to developing a sustainable, diversified knowledge-based economy. With AI being a central pillar in the nation's development plans, the findings of our report pave the way for continued excellence and leadership in the field."
He further added, "Saudi Arabia's AI research output is a testament to the country's commitment to becoming a leader in technology and innovation. The Kingdom's strategic investments in AI infrastructure and talent development are already yielding impressive results, setting the stage for further advancements."
The Kingdom's forward momentum in AI research indicates a strong potential for enhancing its position in the global AI landscape. Through continued investment in AI, Saudi Arabia aims to contribute significantly to technological innovation and economic growth.
This effort aligns well with the global trend, as the report also notes Mainland China's leading position with 769,000 AI papers, marking a 696% increase over the past decade. Additionally, the rise of Japan and South Korea into the global top 10 underscores the significant contributions of East Asia to AI research globally.
Saudi Arabia's ascent in the global AI research rankings reflects its strategic focus on establishing a knowledge-based economy, in line with Vision 2030 goals. The Kingdom's substantial investment in AI research and development positions it as a burgeoning leader in technological innovation, promising further advancements and contributions to the global AI domain.
