Saqr Ghobash Engages In Diplomatic Talks With Chilean And Costa Rican Envoys
Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), recently hosted separate meetings with Patricio Diaz Broughton, Ambassador of Chile to the UAE, and Francisco Chacón Hernández, Ambassador of Costa Rica to the UAE. The discussions took place at the council's headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Omar Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the FNC, and Tariq Ahmed Al Marzouqi, Assistant Secretary-General for Council Presidency Affairs, were also present during these meetings. The primary focus was on enhancing cooperation between the UAE and the two Latin American nations across various sectors.
Ghobash and the ambassadors explored ways to improve bilateral relations and build strategic partnerships. Key areas of mutual interest include the economy, investment, food security, renewable energy, innovation, modern technology, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development. These discussions aim to achieve stability, prosperity, and sustainable growth for their respective countries.
Ghobash emphasised the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations among all parties. He called for establishing mechanisms to enhance parliamentary cooperation, exchange information and expertise, and unify views at international parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino).
The FNC's close cooperation with the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament was also highlighted. The council holds observer status in this body. Ghobash noted that a cooperation agreement between the FNC and the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) within the IPU was signed in October 2014. This agreement is significant as it is the first of its kind signed by an Arab country with GRULAC.
Shared Principles and Future Collaboration
The agreement reflects the growing interests of both the UAE and GRULAC countries. It is grounded in shared principles and foundations for future collaboration. Ghobash stated that this partnership embodies a commitment to mutual growth and cooperation in various international parliamentary forums.
The meetings concluded with a mutual understanding of the need to continue working together to achieve common goals. Both sides expressed optimism about future collaborations that would benefit their governments and peoples.
