Sanad Partners With Lion Air For Comprehensive MRO Services On V2500 Engines

Sanad, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Investment Company, has forged a five-year partnership with Lion Air, Indonesia's largest private airline. This collaboration involves Sanad providing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for the V2500 engines powering Lion Air's Airbus A320 fleet. The agreement also covers aircraft operated by Batik Air and Super Air Jet.

The V2500 engine, produced by International Aero Engine, has been pivotal in aviation since 1989. It currently powers over 2,600 aircraft globally and is used by more than 170 operators. With an impressive 275 million flight hours, it is known for its efficiency and reliability. As of 2023, there are over 5,280 V2500 engines in operation worldwide.

Sanad and Lion Air Sign MRO Agreement

Sanad will utilise its advanced facilities in Abu Dhabi to service Lion Air's V2500 engines. Since 2012, Sanad has been the only full overhaul service provider for V2500 engines in the Middle East. Over the past five years, they have maintained more than 250 of these engines. This new agreement enhances Sanad's reputation as a leading independent MRO service provider.

Lion Air operates one of Southeast Asia's largest fleets with over 310 aircraft. The deal extends MRO services to V2500 engines used by Super Air Jet and Batik Air, both subsidiaries of Lion Air. Combined, these airlines operate more than 65 aircraft powered by V2500 engines.

Mansoor Janahi, Managing Director and Group CEO of Sanad, noted that this agreement with Lion Air strengthens Sanad’s global presence and reinforces Abu Dhabi as an innovation hub. It expands their customer base and builds on existing partnerships with Indonesian carriers. This aligns with their focus on Southeast Asia's rapidly growing aviation market.

The signing ceremony included Mansoor Janahi and Dennis Kirana from Batam Aero Technics. UAE Ambassador to Indonesia and ASEAN Abdulla Salem Obaid Salem AlDhaheri was also present. Kirana stated that "Sanad's expertise and capabilities in maintaining our V2500 fleet make them the perfect partner."

Economic Ties Between UAE and Indonesia

This partnership underscores the strong economic ties between the UAE and Indonesia. It highlights mutual industrial interests while ensuring continued efficiency for Lion Air’s operations. Kirana emphasised that this collaboration is crucial for maintaining the safety and reliability of their fleet.

This agreement not only bolsters Sanad’s position but also reflects the growing cooperation between the two nations in aviation technology and services.
