Sanad Expands Maintenance And Repair Operations With New LEAP-1A Engine Production Line

Sanad, a leader in aerospace engineering and leasing solutions, has expanded its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services to include the CFM LEAP-1A engine. This move strengthens Sanad's position as a top engine MRO provider in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It also enhances its role as a key partner to global engine original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Sanad's LEAP Engine MRO centre, inaugurated in 2023, marked its first anniversary with notable achievements. Over the past year, it serviced more than 25 LEAP-1B engines for major CFM Services clients like flydubai and Oman Air. These services were provided under offload agreements with Safran Aircraft Engines and GE Aerospace.

Sanad Launches New LEAP-1A Engine Line

The recent expansion includes servicing LEAP-1A engines for Airbus A320neo family aircraft. This development broadens Sanad's operational scope and impact in the aviation sector. The company has invested in advanced high-pressure turbine (HPT) capabilities to support this growth.

By early 2025, Sanad aims to achieve full piece-part disassembly for both LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines. This capability will reduce turnaround times while maintaining high service standards for regional operators. The expansion is supported by hiring 20 skilled professionals and over 1,000 hours of specialised training.

Sanad's commitment to workforce development is evident through its investment in training and hiring skilled professionals. The company inducted its first LEAP-1A engine from Air Arabia under offload agreements with CFM. This marks Air Arabia's adoption of Sanad's LEAP-1A MRO services.

Ismail Ali Abdulla from Mubadala's UAE Investments Platform stated, "Sanad's growth broadens Abu Dhabi's role as a global aviation hub, combining cutting-edge technologies with a strong commitment to human capital development. This initiative reflects the UAE's vision for economic growth and innovation."

Industry Recognition

Mansoor Janahi, Managing Director and Group CEO of Sanad, highlighted the company's achievements: "Since establishing the first LEAP engine MRO centre in the SAMENA region last year, Sanad has consistently delivered world-class service, earning the trust of the global aviation industry." He emphasised their commitment to providing comprehensive MRO solutions.

Nicolas Potier from Safran Aircraft Engines praised Sanad’s achievements: "Sanad's LEAP Engine MRO centre's one-year anniversary is a testament to their rapid success in becoming a key player in the global LEAP MRO network." He noted that their investment in HPT capabilities is significant for the industry.

Future Plans

Looking forward, Sanad plans to overhaul over 450 LEAP engines within the next 11 years. This plan caters to growing regional fleets of Airbus A320neo family and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. These engines are known for reliability, fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions.

Adel Al Ali of Air Arabia expressed pride in being Sanad’s launch customer for LEAP-1A MRO services. The collaboration aligns with global sustainability goals of commercial aviation by supporting efficient engine operations.
