Sanad And Etihad Airways Finalise AED 1.5 Billion Strategic Aircraft Engine Transaction
Sanad, a leader in aerospace engineering and leasing solutions, has sold 16 aircraft engines to Etihad Airways. This deal, valued at around AED 1.5 billion, highlights Abu Dhabi's status as a global aviation hub. The transaction supports Etihad Airways' expansion and strengthens the emirate's aviation ecosystem.
The sale involves various next-generation engines for Etihad's modern fleet. It includes nine GEnx engines for Boeing 787s, five GP7200 engines for Airbus A380s, one Trent XWB engine for an Airbus A350, and one V2500 engine for an Airbus A320.

Mansoor Janahi, Sanad’s Managing Director and Group CEO, stated that this deal demonstrates Sanad’s commitment to managing its portfolio proactively. "This transaction reaffirms Sanad’s long-term commitment to proactive portfolio management and optimizing our assets while strategically investing in future growth initiatives," he said.
Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, noted the significance of acquiring these engines for maintaining a world-class fleet. He remarked on the strong partnership with Sanad over two decades: "The acquisition of these engines marks a key milestone for Etihad as we continue maintaining a world-class fleet that drives our growth, honouring Abu Dhabi’s rich aviation heritage."
Since 2003, Sanad has been integral in maintaining Etihad's aircraft engines. They have conducted maintenance on over 400 engines, including V2500 and Trent 700 models. These power Airbus aircraft families and GEnx models that power Boeing planes.
The collaboration between Sanad and Etihad has been pivotal since the launch of V2500 and Trent 700 engine maintenance capabilities in 2012. This partnership has helped Sanad become the leading independent engine maintenance provider in the MENA region.
Economic Impact
This transaction enhances Abu Dhabi's strategic ambitions by bolstering non-oil trade and driving economic growth. The synergy between Sanad and Etihad Airways strengthens Abu Dhabi’s aviation landscape.
To date, Sanad's maintenance transactions with Etihad have surpassed AED 6 billion. This reflects a relationship built on trust and operational excellence. It also underscores their shared commitment to long-term success within the aviation sector.
The collaboration supports Etihad Airways' ambitious goals for 2030 while reinforcing synergies within Abu Dhabi’s thriving aviation ecosystem. Both companies are committed to driving continued growth in the sector.
