RTA Completes Development Of Al Jamayel Street To Enhance Traffic Connectivity In Dubai

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has finalised the Al Jamayel Street Development Project, previously known as Garn Al Sabkha. This project involved constructing four bridges totalling 2,874 metres, capable of handling 17,600 vehicles per hour. Additionally, seven kilometres of roads were developed, alongside enhancements to intersections on the service road parallel to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The project also included street lighting, traffic signals, traffic management systems, a rainwater drainage network, and an irrigation system.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, highlighted the significance of Al Jamayel Street. He stated that it serves as a vital link between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The road facilitates traffic flow through First Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street. It extends seven kilometres with four lanes in each direction, accommodating about 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.

RTA Completes Al Jamayel Street Development

The street is crucial for several residential and development areas such as Jumeirah Lakes Towers, The Gardens, Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens, Jumeirah Islands, Jumeirah Park, The Springs, Emirates Hills, Dubai Production City, and Jumeirah Golf Estates. These areas collectively house approximately 250,000 residents. The project has significantly reduced travel times for commuters in these regions.

Al Tayer noted that travel time from Al Jamayel Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Qusais and Deira has decreased by 40%, reducing peak travel time from 20 minutes to 12 minutes. Furthermore, travel time from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Street towards Jebel Ali Port has been cut by 70%, from 21 minutes to just 7 minutes.

The series of bridges opened in phases. The first bridge spans 666 metres with two lanes supporting a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. This helps ease congestion for vehicles coming from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road onto the service road leading to Jumeirah Golf Estates and Dubai Production City.

The second bridge measures 601 metres with two lanes and a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. It facilitates traffic from Al Jamayel Street eastwards to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and then north towards Al Qusais and Deira.

The third bridge is 664 metres long with two lanes supporting smooth traffic flow from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road southwards to Al Yalayis Street towards Jebel Ali Port. It can handle approximately 3,200 vehicles per hour.

Final Bridge Opening

The fourth bridge opened at the start of this month. It spans 943 metres with two lanes in each direction and can accommodate up to 8,000 vehicles per hour. This bridge connects Al Jamayel Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road ensuring smooth traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

This development is part of RTA’s master plan aimed at enhancing strategic east-west road corridors like Al Yalayis Street and Expo Road completed in recent years. These corridors bolster Dubai’s transportation network by supporting various development projects along these routes while accommodating current and future traffic demands.
