RTA Confirms Operational Readiness Of Air-Conditioned Bus Shelters Ahead Of Summer Season

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that all air-conditioned bus shelters in the emirate are fully operational for the summer. A total of 893 shelters have been set up across 622 locations. The inspection and maintenance campaign, which began in March, is scheduled to continue until the second quarter of 2025.

Shaikha Ahmad AlShaikh, Director of Buildings and Facilities at RTA, stated, "In line with our commitment to ensuring the readiness of all public-facing facilities connected to public transport, the Buildings and Facilities Department has carried out proactive inspection and maintenance campaigns to verify the operational efficiency of air-conditioned bus shelters ahead of the summer season. This preventive maintenance is key to avoiding equipment malfunctions and maintaining the highest standards of service for the community."

RTA Readies Air-Conditioned Bus Shelters for Summer

The RTA has conducted thorough site visits during both morning and evening hours. These visits ensure that air-conditioned shelters operate efficiently around the clock. Immediate corrective actions are taken if any technical issues arise. Additionally, digital display screens providing real-time bus information have been checked for functionality.

AlShaikh further noted, "The RTA is fully committed to responding to user feedback. To that end, we have provided dedicated communication channels for the public to report any comments or suggestions related to the air-conditioned shelters. These can be submitted through the ‘Madinati’ service available on RTA Dubai app. All feedback is handled promptly by specialised teams to ensure customer satisfaction."

To maintain cleanliness and safety standards, continuous cleaning and sanitisation patrols have been deployed. This ensures that shelters remain in line with public health requirements.

Design and Environmental Considerations

The air-conditioned bus shelters adhere to Dubai's Universal Design Code for People of Determination. They include spaces for wheelchair users and directional signage illustrating the bus network within Dubai. The shelters are environmentally friendly with a design that enhances resistance to heat and wind.

In addition to their primary function, these shelters offer ample advertising space. They represent an example of urban infrastructure supporting environmental sustainability.

This initiative reflects RTA's dedication to enhancing public transport facilities while prioritising user comfort and environmental responsibility.
