RTA Achieves 55% Green Conversion Of Staff Vehicles, Leading In Sustainable Mobility Efforts
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has made significant progress in transforming its vehicle fleet for staff use into eco-friendly models. Currently, 55% of these vehicles are environmentally friendly, totalling 260 units. This accomplishment highlights RTA's leadership in sustainable transport and its dedication to environmental care and improving transport services efficiency in Dubai.
Fatima Al Mandoos, Director of Administrative Services at RTA, stated: "Through this initiative, RTA reaffirms its strategic commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing environmental sustainability, in line with the broader vision of Dubai and the UAE to transition towards a green economy. This step highlights RTA’s dedication to supporting efforts to develop a sustainable transport sector and promote the adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles across public and private fleets in the Emirate, thereby contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals."

The RTA has exceeded the 2030 target set by Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, which aimed for a 30% share of hybrid and eco-friendly vehicles in government fleets. This achievement underscores RTA's dedication to aligning with directives that encourage sustainable practices among government entities within the Emirate.
Al Mandoos further explained that this transition is part of RTA’s strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The plan focuses on three main areas: public transport, RTA-owned buildings and facilities, and waste management. The Authority is also enhancing fleet management transparency and efficiency through upgraded vehicle tracking systems and advanced technologies for maintaining hybrid vehicles.
RTA has crafted a comprehensive plan extending to 2030 to support the shift towards eco-friendly vehicles. This initiative aims to enhance air quality while reinforcing Dubai's ambition of becoming a sustainable city. The Authority actively promotes hybrid vehicle adoption among employees and raises awareness about reducing environmental impact.
Training sessions are organised by RTA to educate staff on efficient hybrid vehicle operation and energy conservation best practices. These efforts aim not only at internal improvements but also at setting an example for broader adoption across both public and private sectors.
This ongoing commitment by RTA reflects its role in supporting Dubai's vision for sustainability. By prioritising eco-friendly transportation solutions, RTA contributes significantly towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals while fostering a greener economy in the UAE.
