Ras Al Khaimah International Airport Celebrates Inaugural Flight Of Fly Vaayu From China
Ras Al Khaimah International Airport (RKT) marked a significant milestone in the air cargo sector with the arrival of Fly Vaayu's first flight from China on 7th October, 2024. The aircraft, an Airbus A320 registered as A6-RMA in the UAE, was greeted with a water salute. This event highlights Fly Vaayu's commitment to advancing innovative aviation solutions.
The Airbus A320 model used by Fly Vaayu is notable for being only the third of its kind globally to be converted into a freighter (A320P2F). This conversion was carried out by EFW, a collaboration between ST Engineering, Singapore and Airbus. The aircraft can carry more cargo efficiently, making it a valuable asset in the air freight industry.

Fly Vaayu plans to make Ras Al Khaimah International Airport its operational hub. This location serves as a crucial link between Asia, Africa, and Europe. The airport's strategic position offers access to these continents and aligns with Fly Vaayu’s goal of supporting the expanding air freight market.
The welcoming ceremony for Fly Vaayu included key figures such as Engr. Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al-Qasimi, Chairman of RAKDCA and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport Authority. Other notable attendees were Syed Muhammed Raziff Aljunied, Consul General of Singapore; Boon Keng Tan from ST Engineering; and Vijay Arumbakkam of the Vaayu Group.
Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al-Qasimi expressed enthusiasm about Fly Vaayu becoming the UAE’s sole dedicated freighter airline. He stated that their global operations will commence from Ras Al Khaimah International Airport. "This is indeed a momentous occasion as well as a milestone for us, as we welcome Fly Vaayu to their new home," he remarked.
He further emphasised that this partnership underscores their commitment to expanding global air freight through Ras Al Khaimah. "This landmark reflects our commitment to excellence, defining a new chapter in the aviation legacy of our vibrant emirate," he added.
Future Prospects
The collaboration with Fly Vaayu aligns with Ras Al Khaimah's economic strategy focused on manufacturing and business investments. Sheikh Salem highlighted that this synergy promises future opportunities for growth and development in the region's aviation sector.
