RAK Government And Finland's Lahti Region Sign MoU To Enhance Economic Cooperation And Sustainability
H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, emphasised the importance of international partnerships grounded in mutual respect and shared interests. These alliances are crucial for enhancing the global standing of both the UAE and Ras Al Khaimah. His comments were made during a meeting with an economic delegation from Lahti Regional Development Company (LADEC Ltd.) from Finland, attended by Tuula Yrjölä, Ambassador of Finland to the UAE.
Sheikh Saud highlighted that Ras Al Khaimah aims to expand its international partnerships further. He noted that true progress and enduring prosperity rely on collaboration and economic cooperation. This principle supports constructive global relations, broadens opportunities for knowledge exchange, and drives meaningful progress towards comprehensive sustainable development.
The meeting explored ways to strengthen economic and investment relations between Ras Al Khaimah and Finland across various sectors. Discussions included reviewing the investment opportunities available for Finnish companies in Ras Al Khaimah's thriving investment climate. This environment supports the establishment and expansion of international businesses.
Following the discussions, H.H. Sheikh Saud witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Ras Al Khaimah and the Lahti Region. The MoU aims to promote knowledge exchange and innovation in areas such as the circular economy, sustainable materials, eco-friendly production technologies, startups, technological development between universities, research in bio-based products, waste management, recycling technologies, green buildings, and sustainable construction.
The agreement was signed by Mohammed Omran Al Shamsi, Special Advisor to H.H. Sheikh Saud, representing the Ras Al Khaimah Government, and Jarno Saarinen, Director of Entrepreneurship and Business Development Services for the Lahti Region. It outlines mutual support for investment opportunities while reinforcing both parties' commitment to global sustainability goals. This includes promoting e-mobility and smart city solutions.
The Finnish delegation expressed gratitude to Sheikh Saud for his warm hospitality. They noted that the MoU marks a significant step forward in establishing a long-term partnership. The delegation also highlighted the growing friendship and economic collaboration between the UAE and Finland, which opens new avenues for development in both countries.
Sheikh Saud stated that these partnerships reflect Ras Al Khaimah's vision for long-term growth. The strategy focuses on enhancing economic cooperation while supporting global knowledge exchange and developing innovative solutions that balance economic growth with environmental sustainability across key sectors like industry, energy, technology, environment, and other vital fields.
