RAK Airport Achieves 28% Growth In Passenger Numbers And Cargo Operations In 2024
The UAE has made remarkable progress in the air transport sector, thanks to the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Their vision has positioned the UAE among the top global destinations for air travel and cargo transit. This transformation is evident in Ras Al Khaimah, where significant advancements have been achieved.
Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Civil Aviation and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, highlighted these achievements. He credited the support of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi for transforming Ras Al Khaimah into a key aviation hub connecting Eurasian, Arab, and African regions.

In 2024, Ras Al Khaimah Airport experienced a record-breaking influx of passengers, reaching 661,765 travellers. This represents a 28% increase from 2023 and nearly double the figures from 2022. The growth is attributed to expanded airline services, new destinations, and a rebound in travel demand. Departing passengers alone rose by 39%, totalling 293,815 individuals.
The airport's cargo operations also saw substantial growth in 2024. A total of 6,652 tonnes of cargo were processed, marking an impressive surge of nearly 97%. This exceeded forecasts by 190%, highlighting the airport's growing role in global supply chains amid expanding e-commerce and logistics activities.
The introduction of Fly Flyao cargo services contributed significantly to these results. The airport's enhanced cargo capabilities have played a crucial role in supporting its rising importance in international trade networks.
Aircraft movements at Ras Al Khaimah Airport increased by 21.3% in 2024, with a total of 7,440 flights recorded. This rise reflects improved connectivity as airlines added more flights to existing routes or introduced new destinations. The growth aligns with increased passenger and cargo traffic, showcasing efficient use of infrastructure.
New Services and Airlines
The Civil Aviation Authority has expanded services at Ras Al Khaimah Airport significantly. In mid-2024, Gulf currency exchange services were introduced at both departure and arrival terminals to enhance traveller convenience.
Additionally, three new charter airlines—URAL AIR from Russia, ENTER AIR from Poland, and Hi-Sky from Romania—began operations at the airport. These additions further boost international connectivity for Ras Al Khaimah.
