In a significant move for the global energy sector, QatarEnergy has entered a 20-year naphtha supply deal with Shell International Eastern Trading Company, marking a major milestone in their partnership. This agreement, which commences in April 2025, involves the delivery of up to 18 million tonnes of naphtha to Shell, showcasing the scale and ambition of this collaboration.

"This is the largest and longest to date and reflects our commitment to building stronger relations with established end-users and partners," stated Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar's Minister of State for Energy Affairs and president and CEO of QatarEnergy. This landmark agreement not only represents QatarEnergy's first-ever 20-year naphtha sales contract but also stands as the largest of its kind, highlighting the company's growing influence in global energy markets.

The partnership between QatarEnergy and Shell spans numerous high-profile energy projects, emphasizing their longstanding collaboration. Their joint ventures include significant investments in Qatar's liquefied natural gas (LNG) ventures, the Pearl GTL plant, among other global energy initiatives. This new naphtha supply agreement further cements their commitment to enhancing their relationship, particularly in the downstream sector.

Wael Sawan, CEO of Shell, shared his enthusiasm for the agreement, noting, "We are honoured to enter into this long-term agreement with QatarEnergy, a partner of immense importance." He further explained the deal's significance, stating, "This deal will not only support us in delivering value for our customers around the world but also solidify our long-standing partnership, which continues to be a foundation for our success."

Minister Al-Kaabi emphasized the strategic importance of the agreement, explaining how it aligns with QatarEnergy's broader objectives. "Today's signing further strengthens QatarEnergy's relationship with Shell, which is not only a reliable naphtha off-taker but also a strategic partner. We look forward to building on this longstanding relationship and achieving greater mutual success," he remarked.

Through this deal, both QatarEnergy and Shell are set to experience continued growth, with QatarEnergy reinforcing its status as a pivotal figure in the global energy landscape and Shell securing a consistent supply of naphtha. This crucial component is widely used in the production of petrochemical products and fuels, underlining the deal's significance in meeting global energy needs.
