Qatar's Government Tenders Hit $1.5 Billion In Q2, Boost For Foreign Firms
Qatar's Ministry of Finance has revealed that the total value of tenders and auctions in government agencies for the second quarter reached QR5.5 billion ($1.5 billion).
In a post on its X account, the ministry disclosed that tenders worth QR4.5 billion were awarded to local companies. This marks a 13.5% decrease in contract values with these companies compared to last year.
Tenders amounting to QR1 billion were granted to foreign companies, showing a 67% increase compared to the same quarter in 2023, according to the ministry.
The ministry also reported that the number of tenders, practices, and direct agreements awarded in the second quarter of 2024 totalled 650. The culture and sports sectors led this list, followed by trade, control and judiciary, and defense and security.
This data highlights a significant shift in the distribution of government contracts between local and foreign companies within Qatar.
