PureHealth Launches AI-Powered Diagnostic Laboratory To Enhance Healthcare Services In Abu Dhabi

PureHealth has introduced a new AI-powered diagnostic lab under its subsidiary, PureLab. This 70,000-square-foot facility aims to enhance national diagnostic services through advanced AI automation, real-time quality checks, and integration with over 140 laboratories that hold more than 50 international accreditations. The lab was inaugurated by Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), alongside other key officials.

The seven-storey lab can process over 30 million samples annually. It is designed for future expansion to meet the UAE’s increasing demand for advanced diagnostics. Operating around the clock, it combines AI intelligence, robotics, and energy-efficient infrastructure with the UAE’s most advanced sample transport and automation systems.

The facility offers over 1,800 test parameters across various specialties such as anatomic pathology, molecular genetics, hematopathology, and infectious disease detection. It also supports environmental testing. The lab's multidisciplinary team of 1,300 expert consultants brings extensive experience in laboratory management and clinical operations.

Dr. Fayeza Saif Alyafei from DoH stated that PureLab’s AI-powered Lab is a significant advancement in Abu Dhabi’s vision for a smart healthcare system. "As the regulator, we are committed to fostering innovation and enabling high-impact investments that enhance diagnostic accuracy," she said.

A key innovation is the AI-powered digital pathology platform using Whole Slide Imaging (WSI). This technology transforms traditional slides into high-resolution digital images for rapid AI-assisted analysis of disease markers. The lab connects oncology centres nationwide for real-time remote slide viewing and virtual consultations.

Arindam Haldar, CEO of PureLab, mentioned that this facility will be a cornerstone for essential health programmes like newborn screening and infectious disease monitoring. "Established as the UAE’s core facility," he noted its role in transplant compatibility assessments.

Sustainable Features and Community Support

The lab incorporates sustainable features such as a hybrid transport fleet and rooftop solar panels to align with the UAE’s net-zero emissions strategy. It provides comprehensive services in routine clinical pathology including chemistry and microbiology while supporting community-based diagnostics through walk-in services and home-testing pilots.

This unified platform allows healthcare providers to submit various tests cost-effectively, reducing reliance on multiple labs. The focus remains on AI-enhanced diagnostic accuracy and data confidentiality within a patient- and clinician-centric model.
