President Yoweri Museveni Receives H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed To Discuss Uganda-UAE Cooperation

Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda, welcomed H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the start of Sheikh Abdullah’s visit to Uganda. Jeje Odong, Uganda's Minister of Foreign Affairs, was also present. The meeting marked a significant step in strengthening ties between the two nations.

During their discussions, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah conveyed greetings from UAE leaders to President Museveni. He shared well-wishes from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan for Uganda's continued development and prosperity.

President Museveni reciprocated with his greetings to the UAE leaders and expressed hopes for further progress in the UAE. He warmly welcomed Sheikh Abdullah and his delegation, highlighting the importance of their visit. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in economic, commercial, investment, and energy sectors.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah expressed pride in visiting Uganda and meeting President Museveni. He emphasised the strong relationship between the UAE and Uganda, noting promising opportunities for growth in key sectors that align with both countries' development goals.

The meeting concluded with the signing of six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the two countries. These agreements aim to strengthen collaboration across various sectors. The first MoU focused on investment cooperation was signed by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan and Matia Kasaija.

The second MoU involved a partnership between the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and Uganda's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This agreement was signed by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan and Jeje Odong. It aims to enhance diplomatic training and cooperation.

Energy and Infrastructure Cooperation

A third MoU was signed between the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and Uganda's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development. This agreement focuses on energy cooperation and was signed by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan and Ruth Nankabirwa.

The fourth MoU addressed mutual exemption from entry visa requirements. It was signed by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan and Major General Kahinda Otafiire, aiming to facilitate easier travel between the two nations.

Digital Transformation Initiatives

The fifth MoU involved Etihad Rail and Uganda's Government, focusing on transport infrastructure development. It was signed by Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, and General Katumba Wamala.

The sixth MoU centred on digital transformation initiatives between NITA-Uganda and Presight, an Emirati company specialising in big data analysis. Muhammad Shameen Hosenbocus from Presight signed this agreement alongside Dr. Hatwib Mugasa from NITA-Uganda.

The meeting saw attendance from key officials including Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri from Economic Affairs, and Abdullah Hassan Obaid Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Uganda.
