Noura Al Kaabi Represents UAE At 10th Global Forum Of United Nations Alliance Of Civilisations In Portugal

The UAE delegation, led by Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of State at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in the 10th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC). This event was held in Cascais, Portugal, from 25 to 27 November. The forum aimed to enhance understanding and cooperation among different cultures and nations.

The Government of Portugal hosted this forum under the theme "United in Peace: Restoring Trust, Reshaping the Future." It gathered high-level political leaders, including António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations. Official delegations, interfaith actors, and civil society representatives also attended to discuss two decades of dialogue for humanity.

During the High-level Meeting of the UNAOC Group of Friends on the second day, Al Kaabi delivered the UAE's intervention. She praised the adoption of the Cascais Declaration as it offers a chance to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence. Al Kaabi stated that building bridges between cultures is crucial for harmony within a diverse society.

Al Kaabi highlighted that in the UAE, where over 200 nationalities coexist, communication and dialogue are vital. These elements contribute to social harmony and are essential for security and stability. They also drive strength, development, and progress within such a diverse social fabric.

The Minister urged UN member states and societal representatives to fight against intolerance, extremism, and hate speech. She emphasized creating bonds of friendship and cooperation among different cultures. Al Kaabi also stressed protecting cultural and religious heritage as it can lead to cultural revival.

She cited UNESCO’s "Revive the Spirit of Mosul" initiative as an example. The UAE joined this initiative in 2018 with a USD 50.4 million contribution. This project aims to protect cultural heritage and promote social revival in conflict-affected areas.

Commitment to Cooperation

Al Kaabi concluded by reaffirming the UAE’s dedication to international cooperation for peace and development. She emphasized working together towards a future marked by tolerance, prosperity, and progress.
