Noor Dubai Foundation has wrapped up its blindness prevention camp in Nigeria, offering essential eye care services. The camp assisted 1,742 patients with eye conditions, conducted 207 surgeries, distributed 330 pairs of eyeglasses, and provided 223 medical prescriptions. This initiative marks Noor Dubai's second camp in Nigeria, aiming to combat blindness and visual impairments through free examinations and surgical interventions.

Organised with DP World Foundation's support at Asokoro District Hospital in Abuja, the camp served a city with a population of 1.6 million. Dr Taryam highlighted that Nigeria's population is 206 million, with around 24 million people experiencing visual impairments, including 1.3 million who are blind.

In Katsina State, Noor Dubai has implemented a comprehensive blindness prevention programme over the past four years. Collaborating with the state's Ministry of Health, they upgraded three hospitals into specialised centres for eye disease treatments. The programme also improved 250 primary healthcare centres and supplied 128 medical devices.

The initiative included performing 12,000 surgeries and conducting 25,000 consultations with free treatments. School health services were also enhanced to provide eye care for students and teachers. Dr Taryam stated: "We are proud of the comprehensive blindness prevention programme implemented in Katsina State over the past four years."

Latifa Al Qemzi, Director General of DP World Foundation, expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the eye camp. She emphasised their commitment to improving lives in regions lacking quality healthcare access. "Our partnership with Noor Dubai Charity Foundation aligns with our mission to create positive social impact," said Al Qemzi.

The collaboration between Noor Dubai Charity Foundation and DP World Foundation is significantly impacting individuals' lives in Nigeria and beyond. Their joint efforts focus on restoring sight and enhancing life quality for communities in need.

The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness reports that visual impairments affect 10.8% of Nigeria's population, with women making up 54% of those affected. These statistics underscore the importance of initiatives like Noor Dubai’s camps in addressing critical health needs.

Noor Dubai’s ongoing efforts aim to empower individuals through sustainable solutions while addressing urgent health challenges. By providing essential eye care services, they are building a brighter future for many communities.
