Noatum Maritime Introduces First LNG Powered Vessel To United Global Ro-Ro Fleet For Sustainable Shipping
Noatum Maritime, a part of AD Ports Group's Maritime & Shipping Cluster, has received its first LNG-powered Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) Ro-Ro vessel. This vessel will be used by the newly established joint venture with Erkport, named "United Global Ro-Ro." The acquisition is a significant step in Noatum Maritime's strategy to expand its Ro-Ro operations.
The new vessel, UGR Al Samha, serves as a flagship for the Ro-Ro business. It features 12 decks spanning 59,331 square metres and can carry over 7,000 car equivalent units (CEU). This capacity supports Noatum Maritime's goal of enhancing vehicle logistics and heavy cargo transportation sustainably across various regions.

LNG-powered PCTC vessels offer numerous advantages, especially in addressing environmental concerns and boosting operational efficiency. These vessels produce fewer emissions than those using traditional fuels. They also ensure cleaner operations with minimal impact on air quality while providing cost efficiencies through better fuel economy and reduced maintenance expenses.
Aligning with the UAE's long-term decarbonisation goals, the use of LNG is crucial for Noatum Maritime's transition to alternative fuels. The UAE aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. This aligns with Noatum Maritime's commitment to sustainable shipping practices and operational excellence.
Captain Ammar Al Shaiba, CEO of the Maritime and Shipping Cluster at AD Ports Group, stated: "The incorporation of UGR Al Samha, the LNG-powered PCTC vessel into our United Global Ro-Ro fleet marks a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainable shipping and operational excellence." He emphasised that using cleaner fuel technology reduces environmental impact while ensuring compliance with global regulations.
The UGR Al Samha will join United Global Ro-Ro's existing fleet. It will primarily operate on routes within the Middle East, Asia, and the Mediterranean. This deployment aims to connect global hubs efficiently while supporting greener maritime industry initiatives.
This addition highlights Noatum Maritime's dedication to innovation and supporting a transition towards more environmentally friendly maritime operations. By leveraging advanced technologies, they enhance value for customers while contributing positively to global sustainability efforts.
