Abu Dhabi Mobility Hosts Forum On No Distraction While Driving To Enhance Road Safety Awareness
The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), under the Department of Municipalities and Transport, hosted the "No Distraction While Driving" forum during the 2025 GCC Traffic Week. This event aimed to highlight the dangers of distracted driving. It was attended by officials, road safety experts, and representatives from various public and private sectors.
Dr. Abdulla Hamad Al Ghfeli, Acting Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre, emphasised that improving road safety is a key priority for Abu Dhabi Mobility. He stated that advanced technologies and legislative measures are being used to address unsafe driving behaviours. "Enhancing road safety and reducing traffic accidents are key priorities within Abu Dhabi Mobility’s strategy," he said.

The forum featured a panel discussion titled "Driver Distraction in the GCC," which included representatives from GCC countries. The session focused on enhancing road safety awareness and reducing mobile phone use while driving. It also explored integrating AI technologies to monitor driver behaviour and urged car manufacturers to develop smart systems to minimise distractions.
Brigadier Ahmed Saeed Al Naqbi, Head of the Awareness and Road Safety Team at the Federal Traffic Council, highlighted that road safety is a national priority. He praised Abu Dhabi's efforts in organising this forum as an important platform for exchanging expertise among GCC countries. He stressed coordinated efforts between government entities, private sectors, and communities for safer traffic environments.
The forum aligned with global initiatives by Abu Dhabi Mobility in collaboration with the International Road Federation (IRF). These initiatives aim to share international insights on distracted driving risks while encouraging technological solutions to reduce distraction-related accidents. The event showcased best practices and legislative solutions to decrease traffic accidents caused by driver inattention.
An innovative awareness initiative was announced in partnership with Yango during the forum. This campaign will deliver targeted safety messages through Yango’s mobile applications for passengers and drivers, focusing on the dangers of using mobile phones while driving or crossing roads.
Youth Engagement and Interactive Sessions
At the end of the forum, an interactive session engaged youth and public members who presented innovative proposals addressing distracted driving issues. Notable ideas included using AI and virtual reality to simulate accidents in educational settings like schools and universities. Digital awareness campaigns using modern methods were also suggested to engage society through social media platforms.
The GCC Traffic Week, under the patronage of the Federal Traffic Council, features various awareness initiatives promoting road safety culture. These efforts contribute to Abu Dhabi's vision of developing a safe mobility system that reduces accidents while enhancing life quality in the Emirate.
