National Human Rights Body Joins Global Meeting As Observer In Geneva

The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) has marked its presence as an "Observer" at the Annual Meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), which kicked off today and is set to run until the 8th of May. Under the leadership of Maqsoud Kruse, the Chairperson, the NHRI delegation is actively participating in this significant three-day event.

This annual gathering, held in Geneva, serves as a crucial platform for National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) worldwide to come together. It is typically organized alongside a session of the UN Human Rights Council, with GANHRI coordinating the event in partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The meeting's agenda is focused on fostering the exchange of expertise and formulating effective strategies to uplift human rights standards. This year, it includes a special "Business and Human Rights Conference: The Role and Experiences of NHRIs."

NHRI Observes at Global Rights Meet

The NHRI's involvement in this meeting underscores its dedication to promoting fundamental human rights, advocating for equality and justice without discrimination, and striving towards achieving global human rights objectives. Maqsoud Kruse emphasized the significance of this international assembly, stating, "It is an opportunity to enhance international cooperation and draw upon best practices from various international rights institutions, utilising this leading international gathering to expand collaboration and exchange experiences in all matters related to supporting human rights."

Notably, this year marks the NHRI's second consecutive participation in the annual GANHRI Meeting. This ongoing engagement highlights its commitment to adhering to the Paris Principles and its efforts to strengthen its position as a pivotal entity in the international human rights landscape. The delegation attending includes prominent members such as Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Deputy Chairperson Board of Trustees, alongside other members of the Board of Trustees and the General Secretariat of the NHRI.

The NHRI's active participation in such global forums is a testament to its unwavering commitment to human rights advocacy on both a national and international level. By engaging with counterparts from around the world, sharing insights, and developing collaborative strategies, the NHRI aims to contribute significantly towards enhancing human rights standards globally.
