Nations' Responsibility In Promoting Peace Highlighted By UAE Scholar At US Symposium

Shaikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, Chairman of the UAE Fatwa Council and President of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies, emphasised that a nation's greatness is gauged by its commitment to fostering peace. He highlighted the pressing need to halt conflicts and safeguard human lives without bias. His remarks were made during a symposium on 'Inclusive Citizenship' held at the US Senate in Washington.

The event was organised by the International Religious Freedom Roundtable and the New Alliance of Virtue. It attracted over 100 diplomats, experts, faith leaders, and representatives from international organisations. Shaikh bin Bayyah described ongoing conflicts, especially in Gaza, as a significant test of humanity's moral compass. He stressed that modern citizenship is a constitutional bond rooted in peace and well-being.

UAE Scholar Discusses Nations' Role in Peace

Shaikh bin Bayyah explained that citizenship serves as a framework for managing diversity by safeguarding five universal rights: religion, life, intellect, family, and property. These rights form the foundation for common good and coexistence. He noted that the UAE's philosophy of nurturing a diverse society aligns with the Prophetic saying, "O seeker of good, come forward; O seeker of evil, desist." This principle combines promoting peace with rejecting injustice.

This approach was established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and continues under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Shaikh bin Bayyah also highlighted key initiatives launched by the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace. These include the Marrakech Declaration, the Charter of New Alliance of Virtue, and the Abu Dhabi Declaration for Inclusive Citizenship.

Participants at the symposium praised Shaikh bin Bayyah's address. They affirmed that it reflects the UAE’s role as a bridge of values between East and West. The UAE is seen as a partner in promoting peace and coexistence globally. The nation's efforts are viewed as vital in fostering understanding across different cultures and religions.

The UAE's commitment to these principles underscores its dedication to creating a harmonious society where diversity is celebrated. By prioritising peace and coexistence, the UAE sets an example for other nations to follow in addressing global challenges through dialogue and mutual respect.
