MoHAP Launches National Supplementary Measles Immunisation Campaign For Children In 2024
The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has introduced the National Supplementary Measles Immunisation Campaign 2024, themed "Protect Yourself, Protect Your Community." This initiative, in collaboration with Emirates Health Services, Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, and Dubai Health Authority, aims to enhance immunity by offering an additional booster dose of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine to children within the specified age group.
Targeting children aged 1 to 7, this campaign seeks to shield them from measles and its complications. Vaccination is regarded as the most effective method for disease prevention and is a top priority for MoHAP in fostering a health-conscious society. The initiative represents a significant investment in future generations' well-being and is crucial for sustainable development.

Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector, explained that the National Measles Campaign aligns with the National Policy on Vaccinations. This framework aims to combat communicable diseases like measles and reduce their risks to individuals and society. It also supports the Ministry’s strategy to promote public health and foster a preventive society.
The campaign is part of a broader effort to improve strategic vaccination coverage indicators. By ensuring accessible preventive health services across all facilities and collaborating within a unified national health system, MoHAP aims to strengthen the health system's response to infectious diseases through national programmes and enhanced surveillance mechanisms.
The UAE remains committed to playing a leading role globally in promoting immunisation and achieving high measles coverage rates. "We at the Ministry strictly follow the latest WHO-approved protocols," stated Dr. Al Rand. These protocols ensure safety and efficacy standards are met, resulting in a notable decline in measles infection rates.
Dr. Nada Al Marzouqi, Director of the Department of Public Health and Prevention, stressed that vaccination is crucial for preventing measles. She urged parents to take their children to designated health centres and school clinics for vaccinations. This step will help achieve high vaccination coverage and strengthen community immunity.
Community Involvement
Community participation is vital for the success of immunisation programmes. Dr. Al Marzouqi highlighted that involving families in protecting their children's health is essential. Medical teams are ready to answer parents’ questions and provide necessary support throughout this process.
The UAE aims for 100% vaccination coverage among target groups by 2030 through continuously updated immunisation programmes. The campaign not only supports national goals but also contributes to global efforts to eradicate measles by 2030.
