National Human Rights Institution Conducts Field Visit To Assess Workers' Living Conditions In Dubai
The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) in the UAE is actively working to uphold human rights. Recently, a team led by Ameirah Al Seraidi, a member of the NHRI’s Board of Trustees, visited a labour accommodation in Dubai Industrial City. This visit aligns with NHRI's mission to ensure workers enjoy rights as per national and international standards.
During this visit, the NHRI delegation included Dr. Zayed Al Shamsi and Noor Al Suwaidi from the Board of Trustees, along with Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, Secretary-General of the NHRI. They were joined by technical and human rights experts from the institution. The team engaged with workers individually to understand their living conditions and gather feedback.

These field visits are crucial for NHRI to directly assess and evaluate on-ground situations. The aim is to provide practical recommendations that enhance workers’ rights. Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of the NHRI, emphasised their dedication by stating, "The National Human Rights Institution spares no effort to promote and protect the rights of workers in the UAE."
The NHRI's commitment is evident as they strive to ensure a suitable work environment and decent living standards for all workers. Their efforts include continuous monitoring and evaluation through these visits.
The NHRI initiated its first field visit in February under Clause (7) of Article (5) of Federal Law No. (12) of 2021. This law empowers them to conduct field visits across various institutions like correctional facilities, healthcare centres, and labour accommodations to monitor human rights conditions.
These visits are designed not only to assess compliance with human rights laws but also to raise awareness about these standards among institutions and individuals alike.
The NHRI remains committed to promoting human rights awareness while ensuring adherence to both national legislation and international conventions. Their ongoing efforts reflect a strong dedication towards safeguarding workers' rights across the UAE.
