Nahyan Bin Zayed Recognises Emirati Runner Salem Al Hashemi For Completing Abbott World Marathon Majors

H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, recently honoured Emirati runner Salem Abdullah Al Hashemi. Al Hashemi, a member of the Abu Dhabi Running Team, completed the Abbott World Marathon Majors. This series is one of the most prestigious in global long-distance running.

Al Hashemi's marathon journey included major races such as the New York Marathon in November 2023 and the Boston Marathon in April 2024. In Boston, he achieved his fastest time of 2 hours and 53 minutes. He also participated in marathons in Berlin, Chicago, Tokyo, and London between 2024 and 2025. His average finish time across these races was under three hours.

Now an engineer at TAQA Distribution, he balances his professional career with sporting achievements. His journey from football to becoming one of UAE’s leading marathon athletes exemplifies personal ambition combined with national pride.

The support from teammates in the Abu Dhabi Running Team has been crucial for Al Hashemi. Regular participation in community races organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council provides an ideal environment for nurturing talent and driving excellence in sport.
