Nahyan Bin Mubarak Emphasises Human Values In Shaping The Future Of Artificial Intelligence
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, stressed the importance of embedding tolerance and human values in the development of artificial intelligence (AI). He highlighted that AI should enhance human life rather than disrupt it. Speaking at the "Machines Can See 2025" Global Summit in Dubai, Sheikh Nahyan underscored Dubai's role as a global hub for innovation and responsible AI development.
The summit was part of the inaugural Dubai AI Week 2025, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Organised by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence, an initiative of the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), it took place from 21 to 25 April across various locations in Dubai.
Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, stated: "Dubai continues to strengthen its role as a global AI capital, committed to leading groundbreaking innovation that enhances people’s lives and supports sustainable economic growth." He emphasised that hosting events like Machines Can See reinforces Dubai's dedication to collaboration and responsible AI deployment.
During the event, several significant agreements were signed on stage. These included a regional Memorandum of Understanding among Astana Hub (Kazakhstan), IT-Park Uzbekistan, and Al-Farabi Innovation Hub (UAE) to promote cross-border innovation. Google Cloud also launched its regional initiative for no-cost "Gen-AI Leader" educational programs.
Sheikh Nahyan highlighted that AI is becoming a powerful tool for achieving peace, stability, and economic security. He noted its potential in addressing global challenges like climate change and income disparities. However, he cautioned against misuse by criminals and stressed the need for ethical considerations and shared human values in AI development.
He further emphasised that human development in the age of AI requires aggressive educational programs. These should promote science and technology while fostering critical thinking skills. Partnerships between educational institutions and industries are crucial for turning research into social and economic progress.
International Collaboration in AI
The summit featured over 2,000 delegates from around the world. It included panel discussions on topics like humanoid robotics and generative AI. Workshops by AWS and NVIDIA provided hands-on experience with advanced AI solutions. A ministerial panel discussed strategies for attracting global AI talent through visa reforms and cross-border collaboration.
Alexander Khanin, Founder & CEO of Polynome Group, expressed pride in the summit’s growth: "In just three years, Machines Can See has become a global platform that bridges groundbreaking scientific research with tangible real-world impact." The event set new standards for collaboration between science, industry, and government.
The UAE's Vision for AI
Sheikh Nahyan affirmed that under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE values technological achievement. The country aims to leverage innovation to support education, business, healthcare, and sustainability. The UAE is committed to using AI responsibly to accelerate human activities while ensuring safety.
The summit concluded with a call for using AI as a platform to promote global peace and prosperity. Sheikh Nahyan urged participants to advance understanding of AI while fostering peaceful coexistence. The event reinforced Dubai’s ambitions as a leader in artificial intelligence on a global scale.
