Mubadala Energy Strengthens Andaman Sea Exploration With Strategic Licence Wins
Mubadala Energy, based in Abu Dhabi, has announced two major milestones in its Andaman exploration activities. The company, along with Harbour Energy, has secured the Central Andaman licence from MIGAS, Indonesia's oil and gas regulator. Harbour holds a 60% operated interest while Mubadala Energy holds 40%. This acquisition enhances Mubadala Energy’s growth strategy in the Andaman Sea.
Mubadala Energy also reported the successful completion of its South Andaman drilling campaign. This included the appraisal of the Layaran discovery. The campaign involved drilling Layaran-1, Tangkulo-1, Layaran-2, and Layaran-2ST1 wells. These efforts showcased the multi-TCF potential of the Andaman Sea basin.

Adnan Bu Fateem, Chief Operating Officer at Mubadala Energy, commented on this development. He said, "The successful bidding for the Central Andaman block is an important strategic development that will unlock further potential opportunities. Capitalising on our operational capabilities and deep understanding of the basin we are well positioned to realize the potential of South and Central Andaman and look forward to working with our partner and government stakeholders to develop these projects."
This multi-well campaign in South Andaman and Andaman II has confirmed significant in-place discovered resources. These resources have the potential to play a crucial role in Indonesia's and Southeast Asia's energy landscape. Mubadala Energy is actively developing a strategy to bring these resources into production swiftly.
