UAE Health Ministry's Campaign Boosts Fruit And Vegetable Consumption
The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has recently concluded a significant health initiative focused on enhancing community health through better nutrition. This campaign, which took place throughout February and March across the UAE, aimed to encourage the daily intake of fruits and vegetables by offering practical advice on incorporating these essential food items into everyday meals. The initiative tackled common barriers such as cost, availability, and preparation time that hinder healthy eating habits.
One of the key objectives of the campaign was to urge residents to consume at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day, emphasizing the vital nutrients, vitamins, and minerals these foods provide. Additionally, the campaign promoted the choice of locally sourced produce, highlighting the benefits for both personal health and environmental sustainability.

Aligned with MoHAP's strategy to improve life quality through better dietary practices, this campaign represents a commitment to promoting informed nutritional choices among UAE residents. Activities were held in various locations, including RAK Mall in Ras Al Khaimah, Qidfa Corniche in Fujairah, City Centre Ajman, City Centre Al Zahia in Sharjah, and Al Khawaneej Walk in Dubai.
Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector at MoHAP, emphasized the campaign's role in supporting the Ministry’s objectives towards enhancing preventive and community healthcare programmes. He highlighted the importance of daily consumption of fruits and vegetables for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and fostering sustainable eating habits.
Nouf Khamis Al Ali, Director of the Health Promotion Department at MoHAP, pointed out that the campaign significantly raised community awareness about the importance of a proper diet. It underscored the necessity of including vegetables and fruits in daily meals. This initiative was launched following a study that showed 83% of community members do not meet the recommended intake of these crucial food groups. The findings underscored the urgent need to provide information and guidance to help integrate these foods into daily diets effectively.
The success of this nutrition-focused awareness campaign marks a positive step towards achieving MoHAP's goal of improving public health standards and quality of life through enhanced dietary habits. By addressing key challenges and offering actionable solutions, MoHAP continues to lead efforts in fostering a healthier community across the UAE.
