MoHAP Achieves Record Results In National Hypertension Campaign Surpassing Targets By 157 Percent

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) in the UAE has reported outstanding results from its National Campaign for Early Detection of Hypertension, exceeding its target by 157%. This achievement highlights the UAE's healthcare system's effectiveness and preparedness.

Over 110,000 screenings were conducted across the Emirates, surpassing the initial goal of 70,000. The campaign aimed to foster preventive measures and promote early detection to combat non-communicable diseases like hypertension.

MoHAP Reports Success in Hypertension Campaign

During a ceremony in Dubai, Dr. Nada Hasan Al Marzouqi, Director of Public Health and Prevention Department at MoHAP, along with Dr. Buthaina Bin Belaila, Head of the Non-Communicable Disease and Mental Health Department at MoHAP, senior health officials, and experts from various sectors celebrated the campaign's success. The event marked the campaign's conclusion and provided a platform to discuss strategies for sustainable health impacts nationwide.

Dr. Nada Al Marzouqi emphasized that the national hypertension campaign was driven by integrated government efforts and strong partnerships aligned with the "We the UAE 2031" vision. This vision aims to create a future-ready healthcare system prioritizing prevention and early intervention. The campaign serves as a model for shifting from treatment-based approaches to prevention-focused strategies.

The initiative contributes to reducing premature deaths from non-communicable diseases by 30% by 2030, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Nada stated that public health is a shared responsibility involving federal, local, private, and community stakeholders. She highlighted that transforming field data into strategic indicators enhances evidence-based health policy design and resource optimization.

Dr. Buthaina Bin Belaila shared key findings from the campaign: 21% of screened participants had hypertension; over 40% were unaware of their condition; and 29% receiving treatment had not achieved desired blood pressure control levels. These findings underscore the importance of regular screening. The campaign also offered nutritional advice, lifestyle guidance, and follow-up for high-risk cases in collaboration with various health authorities and medical groups.

Since 2017, the UAE has participated annually in the global May Measurement Month (MMM) campaign led by the International Society of Hypertension. This initiative has evolved into a national platform for awareness and prevention, providing public education, updating clinical guidelines, and expanding specialised clinics for non-communicable diseases.

The UAE's strong partnerships have enabled tens of thousands of annual screenings, consistently ranking it among the top countries worldwide in screening volume. The event concluded with panel discussions on the campaign’s experiences, challenges, and future opportunities for sustainable health initiatives.

A documentary video showcasing the campaign was screened during the event. Participating entities received certificates and symbolic awards as recognition for their contributions. This reflects a spirit of national collaboration and collective commitment to improving community health across the UAE.
