Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Reviews Innovative RAILBUS Transit System And Therme Dubai Wellbeing Resort

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, evaluated the RAILBUS project. This solar-powered mass transit system aims to transform urban mobility with its innovative design and autonomous capabilities. It promises to be an efficient and sustainable public transport solution. Accompanying him were H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and other dignitaries.

During his visit to the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) stand at the World Governments Summit, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed also examined the Therme Dubai project. This wellbeing resort and interactive park is set to be a first in the Middle East and the tallest globally. Located in Zabeel Park, it will involve an investment of AED2 billion from both local and international financial partners.

The RAILBUS initiative aligns with several strategic goals, including the UAE Net Zero Strategy 2050 and Dubai's Autonomous Transport Strategy 2030. The latter aims for 25% of all trips in Dubai to be autonomous by 2030. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of RTA, briefed H.H. Sheikh Mohammed on this project’s potential impact on urban transport.

Al Tayer stated: "The project reflects RTA’s commitment to fostering public-private partnerships and supporting start-ups in developing next-generation autonomous transport systems." He highlighted that RAILBUS integrates seamlessly with Dubai’s existing public transport network while enhancing connectivity for residents and visitors.

The carriages of RAILBUS are crafted using advanced technologies focused on sustainability. They incorporate high-efficiency components that ensure safety while minimising energy use and maintenance costs. Each carriage is built using a scalable design with recyclable materials, resulting in a lighter structure weighing seven tonnes.

These carriages measure 11.5 metres long, 2.6 metres wide, and 2.9 metres high, accommodating up to 40 passengers at speeds reaching 100 km/h. The interior boasts modern features like spacious seating areas, ambient lighting, and onboard Wi-Fi for passenger comfort.

Cost-Effective Operations

RAILBUS offers lower infrastructure and operational costs compared to similar systems, being 20-30% more economical due to its reliance on solar power as the main energy source. Its lightweight design utilises sustainable materials such as carbon fibre, which enhances efficiency and allows for rapid construction.

Technical studies on RAILBUS will conclude within two years, after which pilot locations will be chosen to test its integration with Dubai's broader transport network.

Therme Dubai: A Wellbeing Destination

The Therme Dubai project is envisioned as a world-class wellbeing destination covering 500,000 square feet with a height of 100 metres. It aims to attract 1.7 million visitors annually with its diverse offerings including wellbeing zones, thermal pools, luxury floors, a Michelin-starred restaurant, waterfalls, indoor pools, water slides, and art installations.

The resort will feature three distinct zones: Play Zone for family-friendly activities; Relax Zone for adult relaxation with pools and steam rooms; Restore Zone offering rejuvenation through saunas and mineral treatments.

Sustainability at Its Core

Developed by Therme Group, this resort places nature at its centre by fostering urban biodiversity through the world's largest indoor botanical garden housing over 200 plant species globally. It incorporates crystal-clear thermal waters alongside luxurious spa treatments inspired by global traditions like Roman baths.

The architectural design employs cutting-edge sustainability principles using advanced water treatment systems where 90% of thermal pool water is recycled while meeting fresh air needs through clean energy sources.

This resort will also serve as a cultural hub hosting artistic performances alongside immersive experiences integrating technology into visitor interactions.
