Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Completes Humanitarian Projects For Sudanese Refugees In Chad

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) has completed several humanitarian projects in Chad, aiding Sudanese refugees. Collaborating with the UNHCR, these projects aim to provide clean water, medical care, and improved infrastructure for both refugees and the host community in eastern Chad. The initiatives have successfully reached over 131,000 Sudanese refugees and local residents.

MBRGI's efforts included drilling 10 wells in refugee camps, supplying 975 cubic metres of potable water daily to benefit 65,000 individuals. Additionally, a health clinic was established in the Arkom refugee settlement. This facility comprises 13 rooms and two shaded waiting areas, equipped with solar power, a waste incinerator, and necessary medical supplies. It serves over 66,000 people, including 40,000 Sudanese refugees and 26,000 locals.

Saeed Al Eter from MBRGI highlighted the foundation's dedication to supporting vulnerable communities. He stated that their partnership with UNHCR aims to address urgent refugee needs by providing essential services like healthcare and food security. "Our collaboration has strengthened the capacity of refugees and host communities alike," he noted.

Dr. Khaled Khalifa of UNHCR emphasised the importance of these integrated projects in Chad. He remarked on MBRGI's timely contribution amid funding challenges faced by humanitarian agencies. "This support enables us to respond swiftly to both refugees and host communities," he said.

Since 2021, MBRGI has expanded its collaboration with UNHCR significantly. By the end of 2024, it had contributed AED136 million (US$37 million), benefiting over 750,000 individuals across Asia and Africa. In January this year, MBRGI pledged an additional AED36.7 million (US$10 million) for sustainable programs through UNHCR.

Launched in 2015 under His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's patronage, MBRGI encompasses over 30 initiatives focusing on humanitarian aid and development. The foundation prioritises investment in human capital as a vital resource for addressing global challenges.

Focus on Development

MBRGI aims to empower talent and develop skills within underprivileged countries. It works towards improving education in marginalised communities while combating poverty and disease. Promoting tolerance and coexistence are also key objectives of the foundation's mission.

In 2024 alone, MBRGI spent over AED2.2 billion reaching nearly 149 million people across 118 countries. Its efforts span five main pillars: humanitarian aid, healthcare, education, innovation, and community empowerment.

The foundation remains committed to fostering hope and delivering effective solutions to pressing humanitarian challenges worldwide. By empowering individuals through education and skill development, MBRGI seeks to prepare future leaders capable of driving development within their own countries.
