MoEI Unveils Geospatial Data Platform To Enhance Agriculture And Water Resource Management

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), in partnership with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) and the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), has launched a Geospatial Data Platform. This initiative aims to bolster agricultural sustainability and enhance water resource management. The platform is designed to reduce groundwater use by 2% and increase unconventional water resources by 8-13% by 2027.

The platform's user-friendly interface, equipped with precise geospatial maps, enables farmers and government bodies to access detailed agricultural and water data. This facilitates informed decision-making, innovative solutions, and sustainable applications for managing water demand. The system also aims to improve agricultural productivity using available resources, thereby enhancing food security through innovative farming strategies.

MoEI Launches New Geospatial Data Platform

Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, emphasised that the platform is more than just a technical tool. He stated, "In light of climate challenges, we must work diligently to develop innovative solutions that improve the efficiency of water use and preserve this life-sustaining resource for future generations." The platform provides updated information on crop production, water use, land use, and water quality.

Dr. Mohammed Salman Al Hammadi from MOCCAE highlighted the importance of food and water security as top priorities for leadership aiming for a sustainable future. He mentioned that MOCCAE collaborates with federal, local governments, and private sectors to foster innovation in achieving these goals. The platform supports sustainable agriculture by improving water use efficiency and enhancing local agricultural output.

The Geospatial Data Platform plays a strategic role in managing water resources sustainably while contributing to national food security goals. It establishes an integrated geospatial database that aids in efficient agricultural planning, risk management, and monitoring of water resources. This aligns with the National Water and Energy Demand Side Management Programme's objectives.

The platform's advanced system redefines natural resource management by offering accurate data crucial for decision-making processes. It aims to improve water productivity by upgrading agricultural production efficiency using available resources. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to food security by enhancing local produce through innovative farming techniques.

This collaborative effort between MoEI, MOCCAE, and EAD underscores the commitment to addressing climate challenges through technological advancements. By leveraging accurate geospatial data, the platform seeks to ensure sustainable development while preserving vital natural resources for future generations.
